JIAS Active Citizenship Fellowship (ACF) 

The Active Citizenship Fellowship (ACF) is a collaborative initiative designed for immigrants and refugees. Its goal is to promote a more inclusive Canada by empowering newcomers to take an active role in shaping their communities.
We Are Looking for Emerging Leaders Who:
  • Are curious with a passion for learning, seeking a deeper understanding of Canada's public policy
  • Are eager to inspire change through civic engagement, collaborative leadership, and impactful action 
  • Have a history of leadership or want to improve their leadership skills in Canada
  • Have work experience, and achievements in their community
  • Are committed to an immersive learning experience from February to October 
Note: Meetings will be held once to twice a month, alternating between in-person and online sessions, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM.

What you’ll gain as a participant:
  • Citizenship readiness: Learn more about Canada and prepare confidently for the citizenship test
  • Leadership development: Strengthen your public speaking, English communication, and facilitation skills

  • Mentorship: Receive 1‑1 guidance, career support, and community connections
  • A Certificate of Completion to strengthen your resume and highlight your leadership journey
*Food and refreshments will be provided for all in-person sessions*
Program Eligibility:
  • Must be a Permanent Resident
  • Have a very strong proficiency in the English language
  • Active JIAS client
  • Must commit to participate in at least 8 out of the 10 meetings
  • Able to meet with assigned mentor during the 10-month program
  • Can take on an action project or volunteer to contribute to a community, local, regional cause
  • Travel within the GTA required (assistance available if needed)
